Natural Cures for Dry Skin

Dry skin affects thousands of people of all ages, and can be caused by a number of different factors. Regular exposure to the elements, a dry environment, lack of water in the diet and poor nutrition are just some of the many causes of dry skin. Luckily, there are many natural cures for dry skin, which are not only inexpensive, but also safe and effective.
Brewer's Yeast
Brewer's yeast can help cure dry skin because it contains ingredients that control skin secretions. It is also a good source of B vitamins, which are essential for healthy skin. Drinking 1 tbsp. of Brewer's yeast combined with a strong juice, such as grape or cranberry, on a daily basis will help nourish dry skin. A facial mask made with the yeast, and applied once or twice per week, will further benefit dry skin.
To make a Brewer's yeast face mask, combine 1 tbsp. yeast with 1 tsp. each of milk and honey. Add a little water to form a thick paste, and apply directly to the face. Allow the mask to dry for 15 to 30 minutes, and then remove with a washcloth soaked in warm water. Follow with a natural astringent for best results.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is one of the gentlest natural cures for dry skin. When applied topically, it nourishes, moisturizes and hydrates skin that is dry or malnourished. Add rosewater or milk to 1 tbsp. of oatmeal to create a thick paste. Apply directly to the face and neck. Allow the mask to remain for at least 15 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with tepid water. The oatmeal will leave the skin feeling silky, smooth and soft. This treatment can be repeated several times per week to cure dry skin.
Humidifier
If the air in your home is dry, your skin will also become dry. A humidifier is an easy and effective natural cure for dry skin. Place a humidifier in the room of your home that you spend the most time in, or place a small humidifier in each room. This will keep the air humid and prevent skin from drying out. Clean the humidifier regularly to keep it in top working condition. Alternatively, a hand spray atomizer filled with water and a tsp. of glycerin can be used to spray onto the face, and in the air, to keep dry skin nourished.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar, when used as a splash or in the bath water, is another of the mildest natural cures for dry skin. It reduces flakiness and itchiness, and balances the pH levels of the skin. Apply diluted apple cider vinegar directly to the areas of dry skin, or pour 1 cup into the bathwater. This treatment can be repeated once per day, as needed. However, daily bathing is not recommended for sufferers of dry skin, as water and soap tend to strip the skin's natural moisture.
